Network visibility
Our network discover is fast and efficient.
Rather than pulling back ARP, routing or bridging tables, which can overwhelm your network, AKIPS uses the gentler and more effective approach of sending pings to every possible IP address in your infrastructure. There is no need to input CSV files.
Our algorithm finds and adds new devices, and updates the configuration of existing devices. Network discover for a network of 5000 switches and routers will typically take 10 minutes.
Features
- Discover your entire network or a single device
- Configurable scan ranges and rates
- IPv4/6
- SNMP v1/v2/v3
- Fingerprints each device using SNMP v3 engine ID and interface MAC addresses
- Automatically deletes duplicate devices using the fingerprint
- We scatter our ping and SNMP scanning throughout your network to avoid triggering denial of service
- Detects and configures vendor-specific MIB objects
- Filter devices by sysName, vendor, model or location
- Schedule daily rewalks to detect changes to your network
AKIPS has engineered intelligent polling. Adaptive polling monitors every counter/gauge to assess if their values are changing, then dynamically increases the polling interval (to a maximum of 180 seconds) for unchanging MIB objects. When the values change, the interval reverts to 60-second polling.
Tune interface state monitors the operational state of every interface every 60 seconds. It suspends polling of the MIB objects for that interface if it detects that it is down, and resumes polling the MIB objects when it detects that the interface is back up.
These ensure that AKIPS never overwhelms your network with unnecessary SNMP traffic.
Features
- Reduces SNMP network traffic by 60 per cent
- Multiple inflight requests eliminates high rtt issues and the need for distributor pollers
- Purpose-built, tight integration between the poller and databases – no SQL
- No inefficient threads – instead we use a highly efficient state machine
These tools receive, filter, log, report and alert on syslog messages and SNMP traps from all devices on your network.
AKIPS reveals potential issues that may be missed between traditional SNMP polling cycles and notifies you before they become a problem.
Features
- Create alerts based on powerful regex rules, time of day, devices and groups
- Filter via IPv4/6, regex, message content, date/time, devices and groups
- Forward syslog and SNMP traps to 10 IPv4 destinations simultaneously
- Decodes vendor MIB objects
- SNMPv3 authenticated (SHA/MD5) and encrypted (DES, 3DES, AES128/192/2)
Our NetFlow feature collects flow records and provides statistics on which devices are talking to which other devices.
Features
- Scales to 500,000 flows per second
- Flow fanout to 10 IPv4 destinations
- Top talkers, listeners, conversations, protocols and flows
- Number of conversations per source IP
- Filter by address, protocol and AS number/name
- Identifies geolocation and unknown protocols
- Hostname resolution
Our edge switch port mapper conducts regular SNMP walks of the ARP, bridge forwarding, IP address and VLAN tables for all network devices.
AKIPS then collates and processes this data via our unique algorithm to locate edge ports. It then maps IP and MAC addresses to their associated switch port.
Features
- Quickly locate any edge port and IPv4/6 or MAC address on your network
- Map any IPv4/6 or MAC address to its switch port and vendor
- Filter by device
- Review location history for the past 60 days
Our config crawler uses SSH to log in to network devices and collect configuration data. AKIPS does this via 500 concurrent secure connections at a time, making our crawler 500 times faster than our competitors.
Our version-control system makes it easy to compare and manage revisions.
Features
- Customisable script rules
- Target devices using auto grouping
- Schedule hourly or daily crawls
- Compare revisions of the captured output
- Display and download any revision
Alerting / Reporting
Our alerting and event handling receive, filter, log, report and alert on messages from devices.
This helps you to identify which data on your network is most relevant to your organisation, and delivers it to your allocated users.
Features
- Alerts on all devices on your network
- Filter out unwanted alerts and noise
- Powerful regex and grouping rules
- Configure your own threshold rules
- Emphasise critical events
- Configure who receives which alerts
- Availability
- Our availability feature calculates statistics on IPv4/6 ping and SNMP reachability and interface up status.
- Customise your availability targets, groups and date/time ranges
- View tables, graphs and reports in the Availability Reporter
- Outage tables display down/up events and total downtime
Our reporting provides instant gratification – detailed information on all devices, interfaces and servers on your network with just a few clicks.
We have engineered AKIPS to be intelligent and hardworking, meaning that we will display your desired report NOW – not in several seconds or several minutes.
Features
- Intuitive clean and white GUI
- Interactive tables instantly filter and rank data
- Quickly locate any report
- Large breadth of reporting and vendor coverage
- Customisable grouping
- Realtime graphs
- Drill down to 60-second intervals for the previous three years (no roll up)
- Percentile reporting
The Device dashboard displays vital information for an individual device on your network, including ping response, CPU, memory, temperature and interface summary.
Features
- Detailed summary line:
- IPv4/6 addresses
- current reachability
- system uptimes
- date discovered
- location
- model number
- description
- Vitals:
- ping response (reachability and rtt)
- CPU load
- memory usage
- temperature
- Instances of events, syslog messages and traps
- Breaches of thresholds
- Groups to which the device is assigned
- Interfaces on the device, including up/down status, speeds and traffic statistics
The Interface dashboard shows interface state, speed, change, usage and traffic volumes.
Features
- Detailed summary line:
- current state
- when the interface last changed state
- speed
- duplex
- type
- Groups to which interfaces are assigned
- Realtime graphs
- Drill down to 60-second intervals for the previous three years (no roll up)
The Events dashboard provides an immediate view of your network status, including device availability and unreachable devices.
We have engineered AKIPS to display the most important events in the most simple and direct way – no wasting time customising your dashboard.
Features
- Instances of events you have defined as critical, e.g. core interfaces failing
- Breaches of thresholds you have defined as critical
- Realtime graphs
- Drill down to 60-second intervals for the previous three years (no roll up)
Our unused interfaces feature tracks interface state changes for your entire network, to reveal which interfaces were unused during selected time ranges.
AKIPS saves you time, frustration and money by enabling you to immediately see what is and isn’t being used on your network, without dispatching a network engineer to physically check your hardware. It does this by informing you when each interface changes its state from up to down, so you can then act on this information.
Features
- Select from the previous 1-365 days
- Filter by group, profile, device regex and interface type
- View summary totals for each device
- View detailed breakdowns including:
- device and interface name
- current interface state and when it last changed its state
- VLAN

Our powerful site-scripting framework enables customers to interact with the AKIPS database without needing to understand our underlying code. We hide the complexities of the protocols so our customers don’t need to worry about them.
Through our site-scripting framework, we reveal our internal APIs rather than additional bolt-on layers. The APIs our customers use are the same APIs we use to write AKIPS. You do not need to install additional modules to use our site-scripting framework.
Importantly, AKIPS’s functionality is so comprehensive that customers need only use minimal site scripts.
Our underlying API is stable and rarely changes. Therefore, upgrading AKIPS will not break existing site scripts.
Features
- Our site-scripting framework includes pre-written integration modules for common applications, e.g. Opsgenie, Slack, ServiceNow
- Clean and stable API
- Plain English – no messy switches
- Ready-to-use and simple site scripts saves you money – no need to employ DevOps programmers as even non-developers can use them
- Included in your AKIPS subscription as part of the product
- Our site-scripting framework makes it simple to integrate with third-party REST APIs
